Hypertension Clinic

Patients who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or who have been advised by the doctor to monitor their blood pressure will be seen by the practice nurse. She will check your blood pressure and advise on lifestyle and treatment. Those already on medication will need to be seen at 6 monthly intervals although sometimes more or less frequent checks may be required. You will be referred back to the GP at regular Intervals.

You may be called into a clinic if you are over 45 years old and have not had your blood pressure checked in the last 5 years. This is a screening process as it has been proven that people aged over 45 years are at a greater risk of stroke. Do not panic if you receive an appointment it does not mean that you have hypertension just that you need to be screened for prevention and advice.
